In a recent crystal reading a client of mine got a message about creativity. With a puzzled look on her face she said “I don’t understand this, I am not an artist, I’ve never been creative, what does that have to do with my question?” Many of us learned to think that being creative is just for artists or that doing creative projects is for those who have a lot of free time.
However, being creative on a daily basis positively affects all aspects of our lives.
So why do we, then, so often feel disconnected from our creativity? The answers are revealed in two quotes from famous book authors that I came across recently and found deeply inspiring. The first one was about our relationship to time:
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time given to us”
How many times have you postponed what you really wanted to do because there were things that you had to do? How many times did you actually find the time to do that thing that you postponed?
And how many of us have thought “I simply do not have time for what I want to do” or “I wish there were more hours in a day”? The funny thing is, one can always find more time – sometimes we just don’t know that it is possible or don’t know how.
When I first came across the book Creating Time by Marni K. Makridakis I found it interesting to discover that I’ve intuitively been doing many of the exercises she recommends but that would just as often convince myself that “hard work” (which was often actually just “busy work”) was more important. I went back-and-forth between these two approaches until things started shifting . . . (more about this in another post)
The second quote was about courage and our gifts:
“This, I believe, is the central question upon which all creative living hinges: Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic:Creative Living Beyond Fear
This, in turn, brought to mind a saying ascribed to one of the most famous figures in the recent history of humankind: “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” Sounds familiar?
Can you think of some instances in your life where this was happening? Perhaps not appearing as total destruction but as obstacles, as an illness, as confusion, as procrastination, as an inability to move forward in life?
We are all unique and we all have something to contribute to the world that also makes us joyful. Greater joy equals greater energy. This in turn can lead to more money-making opportunities . . .
